Two very different kinds of trip
Stone and prostate work is quick and predictable, often a single admission of one or two nights and a total trip of about ten days. Transplant is an entirely different undertaking, legally and medically, and needs two to three months.
Kidney transplant: read this before anything else
India permits living-donor transplant only from a close relative, or from a non-relative with approval from a government authorisation committee. Foreign nationals must also provide certification from their own country's authorities confirming the donor relationship.
The committee process, not the surgery, is usually the longest part of the timeline. Start it early, and expect four to eight weeks.
We will not work with anyone offering a donor, and no legitimate Indian hospital will either. Commercial organ donation is a criminal offence. If an agent suggests they can arrange one for you, walk away and tell us.
The cost that continues after you go home
Lifelong immunosuppression is the largest ongoing expense of a transplant, and it does not appear on any hospital quote. Find out what those drugs cost in your own country before you travel. For some patients that figure, not the surgery, is the deciding factor.
Have a second donor in mind
Donors are sometimes found unsuitable during workup. It happens often enough that it is worth identifying a second willing relative before you travel, rather than discovering the problem in Delhi.

Can a foreigner get a kidney transplant in India?
Yes, with a documented related donor who travels with you, embassy certification of the relationship, and authorisation committee approval. It is legal and routine, but it is not fast.
Can you help me find a donor?
No. Nobody legitimate can. Anyone offering this is proposing a crime, and you should end the conversation.
Who pays for the donor's care?
The recipient, normally. Our estimates cover both: the donor's surgery, stay and follow-up are included in the hospital quote.
What if my donor is not a match?
ABO-incompatible transplant is performed routinely in India, though it costs more and needs extra pre-treatment. Discuss it with the transplant team early.
